Overview

Scenario: 2400 pts Battleline
Location: The Wall
Date played: 5. April 2014

We decided to have Battleline. No roll for scenario

Terrain was randomized as BRB 8th page 142.My opponet made first placement for terrain. Terrain placement order is below

- Building (tower) (deployment zone)

- Building

- Altar of Khaine

- Forest

My opponent made honest mistake. He didn't add his Hell cannon to his battlescribe file, so I got little handicap.

Deployment

Deployment pretty much as here.

My opponent got following spells for Festus:

- Stream of Corruption

- Fleshy Abundance

His level 4 got:

- Blade of Putrefaction

- Curse of the Leper

- Rancid visitations

- Plague Wind

My Hierohant has:

- Cursed Blades

- Protection

- Smiting

- Vengeance

He deployed his forces first and secured first turn even when warriors received +1.

Turn 1 - Cursed Kings

Horse archers moved to lure Khorne knighst. Then I did mostly small movements.

At magic my WoM was 3+3 and casket gave 2 and channeled one. My opponent also channeled 1 so total was 9 vs. 4

- I managed o cast longer version of vengeance on Chaos Warriors

- I tried to cast casket on CK2, but he dispelled it.

- I tried to cast small smiting on archers, but I naturally failed it.

Shooting was next to nothing. I tried to hit the warrior block with catapult but scatterd away.

Turn 1 - Warriors of Chaos

His knights passed frenzy test. He decided to stay still with warriors and not to risk 1/6 decimation from vengeance.

At magic he got... something average.....

- He tried to cast rancid visitation on my horse archers 2 unit, but I dispelled it.

- He casted blades of putrefaction on Chaos Knigt 1 and he got the lore attribute proc on his sorceror lord.

Hell cannon missfired and rushed towards.

Turn 2 - Cursed Kings

I managed to charge to chaos chariot. Needed 8. Tomb Scorpion got delayed. My other tomb swarm which was intended to guide hellcannon random movement got scattered 10 inches.

At magic... I don't remember eaact dice count but

- I managed to cast vengeance on chaos warriors again.

- I failed to cast bubble smiting.

At shooting I managed to kill 4 knights with compined of horse archers, archers and stalkers. ( 3 from stalker and 1 from archers ). I tried again to get panic test to chaos warriors. There was single casualty but my opponent managed to pass leadership test.

At close combat my chariots did decent impact hits, but didn't nail enough against T5. I was range of altar of khaine so with all of those extra attacks I managed to do 2 wounds on the chariots. Sadly he did 3 wounds and battle was draw.

Turn Analyze:

- I had long hard consideration wether to use horse archers 2 to block chaos knight charge, but i was fairly confident that I could do little damage on them with stalkers and I got my horse archers fairly decent range. And I wasn't too worry about my sphinxeds.

Turn 2 - Warriors of Chaos

He managed to do long charge with chaos knights 1, but overrun wasn't enough to get them in to building (and if i remember correctly overruning inside building isn't possible) Once again he decided to stay still with warriors in fear of dangerous terrain.

Magic was pretty average.

- He tried to cast extra toughness on chariot, but I dispelled it.

- He casted Fleshy Abundance on warriors of chaos unit

At shooting hellcannon killed one necroknight.

Close combat between the chairiots was draw again. If I remember correclty neither of us didn't do any damage at all.

Turn 3 - Cursed Kings

I swift reformed skeletons to support my hierophant unit.

At magic I got cap. I think it was 12 vs 5

- I casted 3 pd vengeance on chaos warriors. My opponent tried to dispell it with 4 dice but failed

- I casted 6 pd bubble smiting and got it without IF

- I casted cursed blades on knights with 2 pd. It went and I got one knight back on with only 1 wound. Chariots restored to full strength.

- I tried to cast casket on CK 1 but my opponent dspelled it with his remaining die.

At shooting my archers managed to kill one chaos knight. I tried to shoot with catapult to warriors (to cause panic and strip regeneration) but it got scattered away. Stalkers managed to kill 1 warrior and one of them died due missfire

At close combat my frenzyed smiting chariots did 1 wound on chariot. He actually managed to kill one of the chariots before he could strike. He won the combat and if I remmeber correctly I was left iwth only 4 woudns total on the unit. Necroknights on the other rank really flopped... Chaos knights managed to do 1 wound on them and the raised snake collapsed before striking. I managed to do only 1 wound with smited and cursed blade knights on flank charge. I still won the combat by 2, but as he had 6 models left and I didn't have any so he was steadfast and passed it (due steadfast). He luckily failed reform.

Turn analyze:

- I think necroknight were nicely played. Too bad they didn't nail their opponent. To my best luck those knights failed their losers reform and lost frenzy.

Turn 3 - Warriors of Chaos

He charged with festus blcok to my swarm. He reformed with chaos knighst near the building.

At magic he got rather strong phase. Was it something like 3+3+2 (double channel) or something like this.

- He tried to cast Blades of putrefaction on chaor warriors which I dispelled)

- He casted Curse of the Leper on chaos warriors and upped their toughness by 2. He did got another lore attribute proc (from this or from some other spell)

- He got Fleshy Abundance to chaos warriors also.

At shooting Hell cannon tried to kill punch of skeletons but scattered.

At close combat chaos chariot nailed the last skeletal chariost and reformed. He naturally killed the swarm with chaos warrior block. At necroknight battle I once again managed to do single wound. ( 8 x serpent attacks, 7 x knight attacks on 5+ KB). Since my musician was dead it was a draw. This time my opponent managed to reform.

Turn 4 - Cursed Kings

Double charge on skeletal block and scorpion to 2 remaining chaos knight. Carrions got flank charge from chariot. Facing T6 4+ regeneration festus, nurgle halberdier warrior block with one chaos lord and exalted bsb hero was too much. This picture is little off, but I was just barely able to fly past the unit with sphinx ( I had to land it side ways behind my opponent.)

Tomb swarms finaly got to hellcannon so, they denied hellcannon turning. Too bad it had pretty good facing. Warpshinx truned to aid knights. Stalkers backed up a little.

At magic I got again about 11 - 12 dices.

- I casted vengeance on chaos warriors and my opponent dispelled it

- I casted bubble smiting

- I tried to cast lucky cursed blades on 1 pd but failed

- I tried to cast casket on chaos warriors, but dispelled

At shooting I managed to land the catapult shot killing 1 warrior and strip regeneration. Too bad they didn't run. Then stalkersdid some damage on the warrior block. I did kill one with tower archers if I remember correclty.

Close combat was akward. Carrions were just barely out of altars of khaines reach. Charioteers killed one carrion and the rest tried ot kill the 1 wounded chariot with 10 attacks, but failed to deliver. Combat was draw. Skeleton block and tomb scorpion on the other hand managed to deliver (or more likely chaos knights failed to deliver) and they broke. I failed to catch them. Finaly at necropolish knight vs. chaos knight battle I got those knights feared ( We pictured that fear effect like this that most of the warriors didn't see the terrifying snakes on the flank before they managed to reform. then when they saw they trembled) Still my opponent managed to nail my knights, but this time that single smiting knight + serpent managed to kill 3 knights (two natural 6 KB) and they broke the battle and champion caught them.

Turn 4 - Warriors of Chaos

His knights rallied. He reformed with chaos warriors to face stalkers (I don't know why he didn't charge carrions... perhaps he though they were paper etc.)

At magic he got pretty low result

- He casted Curse of the Leper on the warrior block.

At close combat carrions finaly nailed the chariot (losing again 1 model)

Turn 5 - Cursed Kings

I double charged to those remaining chaos knights with scorpion and skeleton warrior block. I backed up with stalkers to maximum range. I exited tower with my archer bunker (I tried to have range to talkers to heal them to 3 model, but was it so that they didn't. NOW I realized that I could have placed archers to deeper formation and thenit would have been enough.

Magic was pretty average.

- I casted vengeance on chaos warriors and reduced movement by 2. My opponent tried to dispel it, but failed.

- I tried to cast protection for skeletons, but it failed.

- I tried to cast casket to warrior block but it fialed also

At shooting I missed with catapult. Regular shots wasn't enough. Stalkers missfired and again got 3 and one died. The remaining stalker failed to deliver damage.

At close combat unfrenzied knights didn't do pretty much anything (at this moment I think we forgot to roll for the steeds.) Scorpion scored killing blow and final champion broke the combat. Again it evaded me.

Turn analyze:

- That solo knight movement was plain stupid... end of story.

Turn 5 - Warriors of Chaos

Chaos warriors managed to charge stalkers (needed only 5 with two dice (-2 from vengeance and +1 swiftness) Few of them died due dangerous terrain. Hell cannon also charge. Remaining knight champion failed rally (needed double 1)

At magic... he probably casted tougness or poison to his unit and I dispelled one of them...

At close combat stalker was evaporated... Hellcannon luckily luckily didn't score any wounds against my solo champion.

Turn analyze:

- At this moment when I calculated approx how many victory points either of us had gain I figured that we had about 150 - 250 point difference and I literally feeded my knight to that hell cannon... I was so angry. I knew about hell cannons CC abilities and have faced them many times with High Elves. For some unknow reason I just forgot that little tlitle part, that it is actually monster not a war machine and it can charge.

Turn 6 - Cursed Kings

My Necropshinx was at wrong facing. He might have had a chance of killing hell cannon. I spooked fleeing chaos knight of the board. I pretty much avoided cahos warrior block as best as possible. (I adjusted vchaos warriors to little better since they weren't so close at hell cannon as they were in turn 5 picture).

At magic was pretty average

- I tried to upgraded cursed blades on knights (mainly only for healing purpose) and my opponent dispelled it

- I tried to cast casket with 1 pd, in hope of sucking powerdices, but failed)

- I tried bubble smiting on 5 pd, but failed the cast. ( I didn't want to risk miscast, only to heal 1 wound for necroknight, and giving my opponent 380 victorypoints, or even more if my scorpion would have died due crumble)

At shooting I shot everything at chaos warriors, but no bonus.

At close combat Knight received 1 damage. Thus no crumble and he was reduced to 2 wounds.

Turn Analayze:

- I was pretty convinced that hell cannon would bound my knight. I hoped that placing necrosphinx at that location would make my opponent to charge it and I had a slight change of HKB. It was pretty unlikely that Sphinx would have died in one turn against the cannon.

Turn 6 - Warriors of Chaos

Warriors werent' at range of any charges.

Magic... I don't know was pretty low

- I aint sure but my opponent prolly tried to cast rancid visitations on swarm, but failed it or I scrolled it or something like that... (We were playing at one of my friends summer retreat that we call The Wall, and to be honest all the details isn't crystal clear due lack of sleep and many games played in short period of time) Or perhaps it was the carrionrs that he tried to blast with it....

At close combat necropolish knight received 1 wound and didn't crumble. So they were left at 1 wound!

Final score was 830 - 550 (if that knight would have fallen game would have been draw with score of 830 - 815)
