LORE:

Battle of Eshlon

Lead by famous Archmage Loriel a small High Elven army went to investigate an ancient colony called Eshlon. It has being said that Dark Elves conducted unspeakable treasons and forbidden acts in Eshlon. When Loriels forces arrived to investigate the rumours they found that all the Dark Elves were slaughtered inside the settlement. It seemed that daring Dark Elf sorceress attempted to enslave demonic force to her bidding with drastic results. Loriel saw Great Unclean One leading an army of daemons and without a doubt ordered his brethen to engage them in glorious battle

Deployment

TERRAIN:

Terrain was randomized as BRB 8th page 142. I won the first placement roll

Terrain placement order:

- Anvil ofVvaul

- Settlement of Destruction (with 3x Buildings, 1x Wall and Altar of Khaine)

- Charnel Pit (inside the settlement)

- Building

- Wall (near deployment zone)

- Wall (in middle)

- Hill

Terrain analyze: I think Anvil of Vaul was nice placement. I hoped to see battle in there with my Dragon Princes due fireborn rule. I also liked the settlement of destruction that had both Altar of Khaine and Charnel Pit. Indeed some Dark Elven had made blood sacrifices at this site.

DEPLOYMENT

My opponent won the choice of table edge. I won the first deployment. Deployment order was:

- Spearmen

- Screamers of Tzeentch (on right)

- White Lions

- Screamers of Tzeentch (on left)

- Silverhelms

- Seekers of Slaanesh

- Frosthearth Phoenix

- Skull Cannon of Khorne

- Dragon Princes

- Plague Bearers

- Ellyrian Reavers

- Plague Drones

- Great Eagle

- Daemonettes

- High Elven Characters

- Rest of the Daemons

My Archmage generated ( 1 , 1 , 5 , 6 ) I took Hand of Glory as the free choice and turned Arcane Unforging and Fiery Convocation to signatures.

My Mage generated ( 2 , 5 ). I swapped Speed of Light to Shems Burning Gaze and kept the Banishment.

Great Unclean One generated( 2 , 2 , 6 , 6 ) He ended up with Miasma of Pestilence, Blades of Putrefaction, Fleshy Abundance and Plague Wind.

My opponent won first vanguard movement. He also won the first turn roll.

Deployment analyze: I liked the fact that I had wall infront of phoenix to protect him from cannon balls. Once again I know that I probably should place them sideways, but again I refuse to deploy my models such way as it looks complete ridiculous. I also decided that I am going to try to take advantage of Altar of Khaines frenzy tests.

Turn 1 - Daemons of Chaos

Movement:

He left his plague drones about 20 inch from Frost hearth and skull cannon 22.

Magic:

WoM 5+3, no channels

The Dark Prince Thirst (RoC 8) killed 5 Dragon Princes

- Fleshy Abundance to Daemonettes 3 PD

- Plague Wind 4 PD, Irrestible force. He rolled 40 with artillery dice so the vortex ended up going off the battle field. It killed 2 Reavers, 11 Spearmen (pretty well, since only I took 28 toughness test as result of wind) As result of Nurgle lore attribute, 3 new plague bearers were added to the unit. Miscast result was Detonation (7), so he lost the last dice.

Shooting:

Skull Cannon missed the Frost Phoenix.

Turn 1 - High Elves

Movement: Mage in spearmen block moved to exact 24 inch range to the Masquerade of Slaanesh.

Magic: WoM 6+1, no channels

- Drain Magic 1 PD , Fleshy Abundance removd

- Soul Quench to Masque of Slaanesh 1 PD , Dispelled 2 DD

- Apotheosis 1 PD, succesfull Noble causes Fear

- Shems Burning Gaze to Masque of Slaanesh 1 PD, Dispelled 2 DD

- Hand of Glory to White Lions 1 PD, +3 Movement

- Banishment to Masque of Slaanesh 2 PD, Dispelled 2 DD

Shooting: Reavers tried to shoot Masquerade of Slaanesh

Turn analayze: I wanted to use Reavers as frenzy baits. Plague Bearers would have being overrun nicely to show flank to the White Lions. It was also nice to see so many 1 power dice cast ;)

Turn 2 - Daemons of Chaos

Movement: Both Plague Bearers and Great Unclean One passed frenzy checks. Screamers charged.

Magic: WoM 5+1, no Channels

Rot, Glorious Rot (Reign of Chaos 6) My opponent managed to roll 5 x 6 during this turn. Only Silver Helms weren't affected by the rot. Killed 1 Dragon Prince, 4 spearmen and did one wound on Phoenix. Great Eagle and White Lions survived without a scratch.

- Fleshy Abundance to Daemonettes 3 PD, Irrestible force. Dimensional cascade. Unclean One survived the cascade and magic phase ended as all the dices were lost.

Shooting: Skull cannon managed to drew a line to Frost Phoenix, but missfired. Unfortunately for me the missfire result was 5.

At close combat my frenzied reavers managed to kill one screamer, which in return anhilated the rest. My opponent didn't consider that screamers had frenzy now and are forced to overrun and they went right infrront of plague bearer block.

Turn analyze: At this moment I was really broken for the Reign of Chaos rule.

Turn 2 - High Elves

Movement: Frost Hearth tried long charge to daemonettes.

Magic: WoM 5+2 +2 PD

- Drain Magic 2 PD, Fleshy Abundance removed

- Upgraded Hand of Glory on Dragon Princes 2 PD, Dispelled 2 DD

- Apotheosis 1 PD, Natural failure

- Banishment to Masquerade of Slaanesh 4 PD, Dispelled

Close combat:

White Lions made history. With total 13 attacks hitting on 3+ I hitted 2 and wounded 1. Funniest part was that his Daemonic instability test was exactly enough to remove the Slaanesh Riders.

Dragon Princes continued the same roll. I received -1 Sttr from Masquerade of Slaanesh, allthough after the game we realized that it was illegal as the charaters abilities works on controlling players turn. With total 11 Dragon prince attacks (with rerolls) I managed to score hit on 2 models. My Star Lance Noble and Archmage missed all the attacks. And I only scored wound on 1. My horses did another wound. Final result was 2 dead from instability test.

Turn Analyze: After those awfull rounds to hit rolls I had really bad feeling. My Dragon princes didn't push enough damage to daemonettes to strip rank bonuses and now I am going to face a Plague Drones on flank with too big static combat resolution. I also forgot that I bough war banner to them.

Turn 3 - Daemons of Chaos

Movement: I didn't realize that his Great Unclean One had possible charge to the flank of my dragon princes. There was enough cap for the monster to get in CC with one wheel and closing the door. To my best luck he failed the charge roll.

Magic: 3+2, no channels

Storm of Fire ( Reign of Chaos 5 ) - No effect on game

- Miasma of Pestilence on Plague Dronse 3 PD, Failed to dispel on 3 DD

- Blades of Putrefaction on Daemonettes 2 PD.

Shooting: Skull Cannon Missfired again, this time result 4 so no shooting next turn.

Close Combat: Dragon Princes holded their nerves. I received again the -1 STR from Masquearade. Despite reduced strength and weaponskill I managed to kill 4 Daemonettes and stripped one rank bonus away. He managed to do 1 wound on princes and two wound on Fencer Blade wielding Archmage. I holded break test.

Turn 3 - High Elves

Movement: My Silverhelms failed frenzy test and charged towards the screamers. I moved my Eagle to the flank of the silverhelms as I estimated that those plague bearers would overrun (due frenzy) and that way I would get sweet rear charge with lions.

Magic: WoM 5+3, no Channels

- Drain Magic 2 PD, Blades and Miasma removed

- Hand of Glory to Dragon Princes 2 PD, Diseplled

- Shems Burning Gaze to Masquerade 1 PD, Killed the poor bastard

- Upgraded Apotheosis on Archmage 3 PD, failed to dispel. Archmage regained full health.

Close Combat:

Silverhelms owned screamers, but that actually went badly as they moved little farther than I orignally though and plague bearers would have gotten a rear charge.

I called a Challenge with my Archmage and Plague Drone champion accepted. Dragon Princes had time of their life as they hacked through Daemonettes. Archmage survived without a scracth (due ithilmar barding ;) ). Drones crumbled to only 1 wound. Daemonettes rolled fairly low with test so they didn't receive massive damage as result. Should I remembered my warbanner the drone would have died.

Turn 4 - Daemons of Chaos

Movement: Plague Bearers failed frenzy and charged in the rear of silverhelms.

Magic: 6+1

The Eye of the Storm

- Fleshy Abundance to Plague Bearers 3 PD

- Blades of Putrefaction to Unclean one. 2 PD, Dispelled on 6 DD

- Miasma of Pestilence to Unclean one 2 PD, Scrolled

Close Combat:

Plague Bearers got only 1 wound on Silver helm dart, but still broke the elves. Great eagle paniced away. Silver Helms managed to escape their pursuers and still frenzied (was really close call) Plague Bearers charged on White Lions where were close enough to Anvil to receive flaming attacks.

Unclean One had The Eternal Blade. He had something like 7 attacks, but My noble managed pass ward saves without a scract (first 2+ and then 4+). His drone failed to wound my Archmage. As result of Instability tests drones died, Unclean One received one wound and daemonettes were reduced to 3 models left. As winner I reformed my models to 6 wide formation.

Spearmen managed to do single wound on screamers. They were steadfast, but nevertheless broke. They were caught.

Turn Analyze: I never though those Princes would hold so greatly. It must have being redeemed by the worst to hit rolls ever.

Turn 4 - High Elves

Movement: I couldn't charge the Skull Cannon as it wasn't in my front arc. I moved the Frost Hearth behind the plaguebearers to avoid the cannon.

Magic: 5+2

- Drain Magic 2 PD, Fleshy Abundance displled ( I had Flaming anyway)

- Apotheosis on Frost 2 PD, Dispelled

- Upgraded Hand of Glory to Dragon Princes 3 PD, +1 to all

Close Combat:

White Lions did semi ok damage. His Herald had 4+ regeneration boost, but Flaming attack stripped it away. Something like total 9 bearers died and I lost one lion.

At Dragon Prince fight I declared challenge with Drakemaster. His daemonette champion accepted it. Unclean One killed BSB. I killed all but the champion from the unit. Thanks to being steadfast with exact 5 models, I survived.

Turn 5 - Daemons of Chaos

Magic WoM 1+2, No channels

Punished by the God ( Reign of Chaos 3 ) Great Unclean One was the unlucky one, but no damage was done.

- Miasma of Pestilence on Plague Bearesr 3 PD, dispelled.

Close Combat:

White Lions destroyed something like total 10 bearers and received 2 wounds in return.

The Unclean One had some absolutely horrible rolls and he managed to only remove two Dragon Princes from the board. I managed to gain two wound with the drakemaster in challenge and one wound on Unclean One. As winner I reformed.

Turn Analyze: That Great Unclean One was one of the Worst One ever. He had something like ws 7 - 8 str 7-8 and 7-8 attacks, but he just didn't get the rolls and I managed to save wounds really well.

Turn 5 - High Elves

Magic: WoM 6+1, no channels

- Drain Magic 2 PD

- Hand of Glory for Dragon Princes 2 PD, Dispelled

- Apotheosis to Frost Phoenix 3 PD, Failed to Dispel

Close Combat:

My Great Eagle feared but still managed to kill one screamer. It was anhilated in return.

Combined charge with frost, helms and Lions destroyed something like 20 bearers and there were 9 models left in enemy unit.

My Drakemaster issued challenge to Unclean one and funnily enough Unclean one managed to do single wound to it, resulting a draw. Musician were dead =(

Turn 6 - Daemons of Chaos

Magic: WoM 6+3

Khorne' Wrath ( Reign of Chaos 9 ) No effect

- Blades of Putrefaction on Unclean One 4 PD, Dispelled

- Miasma of Pestilence on Unclean One 4 PD, passed.

Close Combat: Rubber lance effect on Skull Cannon, with only 2 dead helms. Whitelions received another wound and all the demons were destroyed in instability test.

Lore: Loriel didn't saw any other way than to make honoary challenge to greater daemon. Unclean One laughed as he accepted the challenge of this mere mortal weak Elfling. Loriel stepped in front of the huge monster and stepped aside against masses of strikes the huge Daemon swinged accros. Tentacles smashed, cleavers swinged! One blow stroke right in to the chest of Loriel, but he was warded by his brave effort!

Unclean One failed to deliver anything and actually lost the battle and received a wound from instability test!

Turn 6 - High Elves

Lore: Leo the Untouchable, captain of Loriels white lions saw his general in trouble. He ordered his brethen to help their leader. Loriel ordered those White Lions to step aside. This was a challenge, this was a fight to bitter end! Leo had no other choice than to honor his commander orders and weep for his soul. Loriel tried to invoke all the teaching he had from Hoeth to gain enough strenght to survive the monsters assaults. Unclean Ones cleaves were too hard to avoid and Loriel managed to summon only small ammount of power. As a result Loriel lost his nerve and collapsed in fear. But he knew that there wasn't any other way than to stand up and fight. No other way! Unclean One roared in satisfaction as he is going to have a taste of Noble elf! But no! Loriel refused to be a victim! He prevailed as the huge monster was forced in to abyss!

Magic: WoM 6+1, No channels

- Drain Magic 2 PD

- Apotheosis 2 PD, Dispelled

- Hand of Glory 3 PD, Dispelled

Close Combat: Dragon prince + Archmage failed fear test. And Unclean one had 8 attacks due Eternal Blade. He managed to do 3 wounds which I saved with 6+ ward. As result of flank charge, rank bonuses the Unclean One crumbled with exactly right ammount.

Final score was 2538 - 874

Game analyze: Well first of all this game had tons of really high or low rolls. I rolled way over above my saving throws, my opponent Unclean One was really awfull as he strugled to even score hits with the bastards. It must have being due the proxy model ;) Terrain was much more important in this game than it usually is. Anvil of Vaul helped tons by striping the 4+ regeneration from the Herald off and Altar of Khaine affected game multiple times. I probably end up trying again this Dragon Prince bunker.
